No cutesy titles on this one. An interview with the biggest Olympics name since… well, since ever really… kinda speaks for itself. Don’t ya think?
2 days after breaking the Olympic record for most Gold Medals won by any athlete in one Olympics, Michael Phelps is larger than life. He’s also dieing for a huge burger and fries, some QT with his dog Herman, and a beach vacation with buddies (all things I overheard in the 2 hours I was waiting for my interview time slot). I was the only reporter there in the flesh -everyone else was talking with Michael via satellite from back in the States. And by the time I got to him he’d been answering questions for 4 hours straight. Ouch.
Still, when I sat down next to him (close enough to see the razor burn on his freshly shaved legs) he was very pleasant and talkative. Just see for yourself…

All right, Peij! Awesome interview with an awesome athlete!! Really enjoying all the “up close and personal” face time you’re having with these Olympic Champions. Keep up the great work, girl!

Page,
Good job on the interview with Phelps. I’m checking this site out for the first time and I am impressed with all you’ve been able to experience over there. I am a little curious however, as to why nobody…and I mean nobody…from NBC news is covering Shalane Flanagan. Maybe I’m biased because I am friends with her, but dang. She’s a UNC hall of famer that currently lives in Pittsboro, NC, and she managed to become the first female american runner to medal in any distance greater than the 400 meter since 1992. Not to mention she broke the american record in the 10k a few days ago by 12 seconds (an american record which was previously set by her only a few months ago). I’m pretty sure it’s the 3rd time she’s ever run the 10k in an official setting and she grabbed the bronze. I know it’s not the gold, but it’s a ridiculous feat in american track & Field.
I’m not coming down on you about this, but rather I guess I’m just venting because the local news broadcasts here talk about some random nc state guy that got a birdie on a hole on the PGA tour, all the while ignoring an amazing accomplishment by a home town star.
